Hi, I'm Yining

I'm a designer with a focus on digital experiences

I'm a 25 year old digital product designer from Ningbo, China now living in San Francisco, CA. I am driven by curiosity, dissatisfaction and an obsessive attention to detail. I like creating user-centric products and experiences that are both functional and delightful.

I'm happiest when crafting interaction details and pixel-perfect visuals, while I'm also comfortable sketching concepts, developing branding, creating wireframes, communicating ideas, prototyping and testing. Having spent many years working closely with software development teams, I have a good understanding of the scrum development process. In the past, I've also designed print-ready artwork for events, advertising, and have an eye for layout and typography.

A bit more about me

How I got here

I'm a native of Ningbo, a city by the East China Sea. I have been interested in Chinese calligraphy and drawing ever since I was a little girl. When I was 18 years old, I went to Renmin University of China, Beijing to study Information Science. I had the opportunity to start my professional career at Gidsum Technology in my senior year. I was involved in SEO, information architecture, and user experience design. During that time, I started developing a taste for pixel perfect work, screen design and the way ideas can be communicated in the digital world. And out of pure interest, I know solving real problems by designing is what I want to do.

I’ve been lucky enough to have had the chance to work with amazing people who encouraged me to keep challenging myself before my graduation. In the summer of 2015, I flew all the way to Ann Arbor, Michigan to start studying Human-Computer Interaction at University of Michigan. It was the most challenging, inspiring and rewarding experience in my life so far.

Currently, I happily live in San Francisco, CA and work as a Product Designer at CBS Interactive. Every day I get the opportunity to design premium interactive experiences for a global audience of over 150 millions consumers. I apply my passion in designing beautiful, functional products with an awesome team of designers, product and engineering people.
